One of the founding members of the
Terra Nova Consort, and one of two Artistic Directors of the group,
O'Scannell has been creating and directing vibrant and unique early
music programs at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival since 1990, when
she became music director of the Greenshows after ten years as a
performer. During this time she has directed, arranged and composed
music for TNC, with two of her programs bringing the group national
and international acclaim. The first program "Fauvel, King of Vice",
was broadcast nationally on Millenium of Music, the other, "Renaissance
en Provence", placed in the (now annual) Dorian/EMA Recording Competition,
which ultimately resulted in the group being signed to a contract
with Dorian. The recording was named CD of the Year in Regensburg
Germany where Terra Nova made its European debut in the Summer of
2000, and is achieving acclaim both in the States and abroad.The
ensemble returns from having completed their second CD with the
Dorian Group, which will feature Canicionero, Romance and traditional
Ghaetta repertoires.
O'Scannell has also appeared as a soloist vocally
and on recorder in the Baroque genre for the Northwest Bach Ensmble,
The Coos Bay Chamber Orchestra, The Pfaff Consort and the Jefferson
Baroque Orchestra. Her work as a vocal coach include the Oregon
Shakespeare Festival, and the J.B.O., she has directed the Trinity
Episcopal Choir, the Everywoman Choir, and other community choirs.
She teaches on a regular basis at Southern Oregon
University through the Senior Ventures, Elderhostel and Shakespeare
Studies programs, as well as teaching voice, recorder and gamba
privately. In addition to her work in the field of Early Music,
Pat has also performed and recorded Irish traditional music for
over a decade, and excels on the whistle as well as an interpreter
of the sean nos vocal style. She has appeared with Men of
Worth, Thomaseen Foley, Molly McKissick, Janet Naylor, Michael Beglan,
Christy Deleney and others and is currently recording the second
"Celtic Project" with Wing and a Prayer Productions. Venues include
the Peter Britt Music Festival, The Seattle Folklife Festival, The
Vancouver Folk Festival and many others.
Educational Background: Choral training from 2nd
grade upward. Studies with Dr. Ben Herbert on the Organ beginning
at age ten. Professional organist from age 15-22. Joined University
Collegium Musicum under Dr. Fred Gable while in highschool, completing
a Bachelor of Arts at U.C. Riverside in 1979, having attended Masters
classes and workshops in perfomance practice with Anthony Rooley
and Emma Kirkbye, Rene Jacobs, Wieland Kuiyken, Gusatv Leonhardt
and others. Further keyboard studies at U.C.R. with Lyle Smith,
and viola da gamba with Carol Herman. Later studies in Medieval
Music with Margriet Tindemans. Recorder instruction with Margaret
Weatherwax and later with Todd Barton, both former Bruggen students.
